The Cazenovia Street Bridge: Satisfactory or Suspicious?

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 8:11 pm

By: CindyK. This is yet another set of close and closer pictures to put out there so the world can see what I see when I look through the lens of my camera in South Buffalo, NY.

This is what most people would see standing at Cazenovia Creek's edge:

But this is what's questioned when the image zeros in on a specific section (note where the red arrow is pointing):

Updated to add: Congressman Brian Higgins, Assemblyman Mark J. F. Schroeder, Legislator Tim Kennedy and Councilman Mickey Kearns ALL have not replied to the emails of concern I sent to them last month. :(

Cazenovia Street Bridge - Another look: close and closer

I spotted this today while down by the Cazenovia Creek:

here it is closer:

I highly doubt this is what the Federal Highway Administration calls satisfactory conditions.

July 19th, 2007 - Cazenovia St. left waiting

The last of the new sidewalk work was completed around July 29th. Seven weeks later, the 2nd phase of the Cazenovia Street project has yet to be started.

Now that school is back in session, Cazenovia Street will be return as well to its usual heavy amount of school traffic. Yellow busses, metro busses, cars, mini vans, teachers, students, parents, ect. all of which will have to be re-routed because of a delay that could have been avoided if the repave had taken place a few weeks back. "Chaotic" will be the best word to decribe the Caz St. repave project now.

It wouldn't surprise me at all though if this "delay" is for political reasons. :(

Seneca Rising in the South Buffalo News

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 9:45 am

by: Cindyk.

In this week's edition of the South Buffalo News is an article following up some Q&A from a recent Seneca Rising public forum. Questions were asked of our Councilman Mickey Kearns and he answered them. Question like:

Seneca St. is in terrible shape. When will Seneca St. be repaved?

As a business owner, what can I do about people loitering outside of my business?

There are a lot of home owners that don't take care of their property.  How do we hold them accountable?

Honestly, we need to see more stories like this in our little local newspaper.

If you haven't picked up your copy of the South Buffalo News yet, you can visit Seneca Rising's website or link to the questions & answers here.

While Cazenovia Street is still waiting on its repave this year, atleast we know Seneca Street's repave will come sometime next year. ;)

Much better

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 10:08 am

I have had many South Buffalo residents ask me both on and offline why the statue of Red Jacket at Seneca and Cazenovia Streets was facing towards an empty building.

Today, it was turned facing towards Cazenovia Park. It's not much, but it's a difference. ;)

Cazenovia Street Bridge - listed as “N”

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 9:08 am

From this document

Bridge: CAZENOVIA STREET
Location: NW QUAD OF CAZENOVIA PARK,
Feature crossing: CAZENOVIA CREEK,
Owner: City,
Built or replaced: 1953
Last inspected: 6/23/2006
Status: N (“N” means neither structurally deficient, or functionally obsolete)

But looking at these pictures, the Cazenovia Street Bridge is far from being a perfect structure.
