Caught in the act: Skateboaders damaging public property.

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 10:04 am

By:Cindyk. I talked to our Assemblyman Mark Schroeder last week as he looked at the damage made to the Cazenovia Street Gardens. He said it would be nice to have pictures of these kids destroying this property.

So here it is: Today three teens rolled up and pulled a brick of wax out of their bag before attempting their skateboard tricks. It is suspected they had a scanner on them because they fled minutes before the police did a drive by.

Cazenovia St. Bridge … a Park Problem???

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 11:26 am

By: Cindyk. This is a follow up to a previous bridge post. Today I entered my complaint number in on the Mayor's Call and Resolution Center.

The status of my concern for the Cazenovia Street Bridge is now closed.

This is what it says:

Referred To: The Department of Public Works - Parks
Status: CLOSED
Closing Date: 2007-08-31T00:00:00.0000000-04:00
Resolution Description: THE MAYOR’S OFFICE HAS SENT YOUR CONCERNS HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE OLMSTED CONSERVANCY WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCATION YOU ARE CALLING ABOUT. YOU MAY REACH THEM AT 838 1249.

I don't understand how The Olmsted Park Conservancy is responsible for a City of Buffalo bridge. Even if it's a bridge that borders a park, the Cazenovia Street Bridge is the City's minding. Take a look at the picture below. Can someone please explain to me how and why Olmsted is responsible for taking care of this problem?

I was sent a letter today by Councilmen Kearns (dated 09/10/07) who said he will forward my additional complaint to the Department of Public Works. However, if my complaint made to the Mayor's line is already closed, what more could come from my councilman on the same complaint that the City has it cited as an Olmsted Park problem?

If anyone can answer that then you're smarter than me. All I see is the City of Buffalo passing along a problem with one of their bridges to a park department who has nothing to do with the bridge in the first place.

Seneca Street: A little investment goes a long way

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 2:41 pm

By: Cindyk. We can sit all day and go on about what's lacking on Seneca Street in South Buffalo, but this is one of those posts where I'm not going to. I wish I had some "before" snapshots to go along with these pictures. Over the past few weeks I have noticed ronovations being made to various properties/buildings, and while it's nothing huge, it is still encouraging to see this kind of investment being made in our community at a number of locations.

Since we’re talking SB street lights - 2 on Caz St: close & closer

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 9:21 pm

By: CindyK. With that being posted, I have some pictures of 2 street light standards on Cazenovia Street. As always, the pictures speak for themselves.

Check out the Mickey Mouse operations on this one… The red arrow denotes a live wire that crosses Cazenovia Street.

So…. Let’s talk about those new street lights on Seneca Street

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 7:17 pm

By: CindyK. Mayor Brown joined with block club leaders to listen to the concerns of the South Buffalo Community.

The date: Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy spoke on behalf of our elected leaders, within his 4 minute speech this is what he said:

"…Fact of the matter is, the money needs to be in place. And we were able to secure hundreds of thousands of dollars; I don't know the exact numbers from Congressman Brian Higgins. Mark Schroeder was able to secure funding from the state, the county has a tendency of not coming into the City of Buffalo with their finances, hopefully when we get a county executive elected from the City of Buffalo that's going to change, but until that happens we'll put that on hold. But for the time being, there was one more step that needed to happen and the funding for Seneca Street development to surpass one million dollars that was $300,000 allocated from the City of Buffalo. That money is going to go to a specific piece of the revitalization of Seneca Street into the light standards on Seneca Street. Now when you talk about $300,000 and you think of light standards, we could have got the typical light standards that you see all over the City, or we could have gotten something a little bit better, a little more unique, and that cost over $300,000. But because of this Mayor's dedication to this project, and because of the work of Congressman Brian Higgins, Assemblyman Mark Schroeder, and Councilmember Mickey Kearns working together this Mayor saw there was a viable project in the City of Buffalo that demanded attention and demanding commitment from his administration and that came in the form of $300,000. Thank you very much (to Mayor Brown) it's a huge piece of that project."

Today's date: 9/10/07 and there has yet to be a change in our street light standards on Seneca Street. The pictures tell the real story, and ask the question: is this just another empty promise for Seneca Street?

in the meantime local businesses fall short of government support

Filed under: Uncategorized — johnk @ 11:00 am

By: Cindyk. I left an opinion comment on the FreeNY blog a little while ago. I'm reposting it here with pictures to make a better/visual point.

“”And the rest of you wake up. No money was ’saved ” because of this, its just going to someone else in the state.”"

Joe, I think it’s a matter of prioritizing.

Our government doesn’t have to spend our tax money to “invest” in order to have a billion-dollar corporation *think* about settling here. All of our money that they want to give away to “Cash Pros Hop” (that’s what I like calling it) our elected leaders could be investing it into more local businesses. …. and not via that BERC crap. The same for New Era… The Church. They all have their hand out asking “gimme, gimme” of our money.

In prioritizing, our money can be used to fix our roads & bridges in Buffalo. Our money could be used help rebuild neighborhoods dying for some economic growth like it had before. All over the COB we have empty store fronts that were once healthy businesses… they can be once again if our government officials can learn how to prioritize our money.

One of the first 5 things said when taking about leaving NYS, there are no good paying jobs here. “Good” being the key word. Cash Pros will only bring minimum wage jobs, in the meantime local businesses fall short of government support.
