  1. OMG….. What a mess.

  2. From the first picture, the biggest problems are the end pillars (pictured). The rest of the building seems to be in great condition, though I’m not an expert in this field.

But a mess indeed, it’s been let go for a long time with minor repairing.

  3. It’s hard to believe that the city take such “pride” in the Olmstead Parks and yet they let a building like this that is park of the park deteriorate like it has. Something needs to be done that is for sure.

  4. I agree Chris, something should be done. I’ve reported the problems to the City of Buffalo, who then referred in to the Department of Public Works - Parks. The status is currently open.

  5. How does one go about checking on the status of things? I would be willing to start a petition.

  6. When making a report (via online) to the City Of Buffalo Call & Resolution center, you have to fill out the form and submit a complaint, thereafter you’ll receive a status number (it is highly rocommended you print the page with the status number). When you return to the Call & Resolution (via the web or by telephone) you can type in the number (or give the number to someone on the phone) to see what department your complaint had been referred to. As in this topic… the dept of public works. It takes about 3-5 days before a complaint is referred, some times sooner.

http://www.ci.buffalo.ny.us/Applications/ComplaintForm/default.aspx — after receiving a status number, click the link that says: click here to get the status of a complaint you already submitted.

Chris, if you’d be willing to start a petition… I’d be willing to help. ;) email me: southbuffaloblogger@wnymedia.net

  7. I’ll bet the wages, bennies and pensions of park workers are all fully funded.

Governments by their nature under-invest in capital and over-invest in income.

That’s why it’s a good idea to make government as small as possible.

  8. Okay Jim. But what do we (avg citizens) do about the conditions of this casino?

It is in the hands of the City of Buffalo, do we disgard any chance of having it fixed because of city union contracts? I’m opting for just seeing it fixed so that community events & gatherings can one day return to this location.

  9. Are you all sure that persons who are against casinos would want to have their city spend money on gambling-related buildings? It really shouldn’t matter but I’m just asking. I haven’t seen deterioration like this in a long time - and it’s a very beautiful building. Nice site - I checked out some of your other pages and was impressed especially since I was thinking to start a similar website about all the rot that’s to be seen in my country.

  10. It’s not the same kind of casino… this one is in a park for events & such, but not a place of gambling.

  11. Yea gambling is only one part of the definition of casino. They are always trying to fix it but skateboarders and other people who hang out there put grafiti on it daily and take off bricks like that section in the 2nd pic. Buffalo does have a project outline however and it is supposed to be fiixed soon. And i heard one of the more major projects for the park is to re-route the creek and create the lakke that used to exist behind the casino and turn it back into a boathouse.
