By: Cindyk. Last week while in Canadaigua, NY we spotted a little garden park right on a very busy/walkable Main Street, the gardens were lovely enough to sit, relax and rest your feet a few minutes. The gardens there, I was quick to notice had the same style concrete wall design as on Cazenovia street here. The only difference was there is a sign attached to the gardens there:
I wrote this comment in a different post, but I feel it is necessary to repeat:
It's easier for skateboarders to use public property because the police will just shag them away. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't. When you really take a good look at the pictures and see the chunks of concrete that have been since gouged out, you seriously have to ask yourself who should be responsible for this damage? The kids causing it or their parents? It's our tax money that is being destroyed because they simply do not have any respect for this neighborhood what so ever.
I'm not sure how long the gardens & sign have been there (in the above picture) but it's only been around 3 months here (in picture below) and the Cazenovia Street Gardens are already past the point of repairing. Maybe it's too late for a sign…
By: Cindyk. As always, the pictures tell the true story, so here we go…..
Peremont Place, it's a "one way" back road off Cazenovia St, a block from Seneca Street, known more to locals as the corner of the Lodge Auction House or the side entrence of St. Simon's Church's parking lot.
There aren't any houses on this street,
You just drive up this street (from Caz) and hang a left towards North Legion Drive,

From the left (reverse angle) a "do not enter" sign is appropriately displayed (try to ignor as hard as you can that the weeds have grown almost as high as the sign
)

Still from a reverse angle, from the right though is the real problem. If you're coming from Key Bank's drive thru (on Seneca Street), and if you're not familiar with the area, you can not see that Peremont Place from the turn to Cazenovia Street is a "one way" …. why?
Because there is no sign posted.

There have been many near-misses on this little street because when you enter on to Peremont from Seneca Street, you don't know you have drive down to Glendhu or North Legion. Drivers are simply unaware that Peremont Place is where they should not be when heading towards Cazenovia Street.
We've changed our look but the same great content will always be here.
We're still blogging proudly on the WNYmedia Network.

By: CindyK. Yesterday evening 3 car loads of (older) kids showed up at the gardens. About a dozen skateboarders were all over the sidewalk as well as in the middle of Cazenovia Street. Most of them took off moments before A district police did a drive by of the corner. It is suspected they carry a scanner with them so they can leave before the police arrive after 9-1-1 calls are made.
Today, I go on record with more of how the damage keeps building….

By:Cindyk. I talked to our Assemblyman Mark Schroeder last week as he looked at the damage made to the Cazenovia Street Gardens. He said it would be nice to have pictures of these kids destroying this property.
So here it is: Today three teens rolled up and pulled a brick of wax out of their bag before attempting their skateboard tricks. It is suspected they had a scanner on them because they fled minutes before the police did a drive by.

By: Cindyk. This is a follow up to a previous bridge post. Today I entered my complaint number in on the Mayor's Call and Resolution Center.
The status of my concern for the Cazenovia Street Bridge is now closed.
This is what it says:
| Referred To: | The Department of Public Works - Parks |
| Status: | CLOSED |
| Closing Date: | 2007-08-31T00:00:00.0000000-04:00 |
| Resolution Description: | THE MAYOR’S OFFICE HAS SENT YOUR CONCERNS HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE OLMSTED CONSERVANCY WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCATION YOU ARE CALLING ABOUT. YOU MAY REACH THEM AT 838 1249. |
I don't understand how The Olmsted Park Conservancy is responsible for a City of Buffalo bridge. Even if it's a bridge that borders a park, the Cazenovia Street Bridge is the City's minding. Take a look at the picture below. Can someone please explain to me how and why Olmsted is responsible for taking care of this problem?
I was sent a letter today by Councilmen Kearns (dated 09/10/07) who said he will forward my additional complaint to the Department of Public Works. However, if my complaint made to the Mayor's line is already closed, what more could come from my councilman on the same complaint that the City has it cited as an Olmsted Park problem?
If anyone can answer that then you're smarter than me. All I see is the City of Buffalo passing along a problem with one of their bridges to a park department who has nothing to do with the bridge in the first place.

By: Cindyk. We can sit all day and go on about what's lacking on Seneca Street in South Buffalo, but this is one of those posts where I'm not going to. I wish I had some "before" snapshots to go along with these pictures. Over the past few weeks I have noticed ronovations being made to various properties/buildings, and while it's nothing huge, it is still encouraging to see this kind of investment being made in our community at a number of locations.
By: Cindyk. In the spirit of remembering September 11th, as it rained this morning I put a few flags in the Cazenovia Street Gardens.
